Names forcefully entered in the electoral roll in panchayat elections in Jammu A peculiar case of names forcefully being entered into the electoral roll in Jammu’s panchayat elections has come up.

The locals have also claimed that not only did the BLO enter names into the voter list illegally but also removed names of several genuine voters from the electoral roll. Names of some groups have also come up as culprits of the crime. When it was found that the names were entered illegally, action was taken and the names were deleted. EC chief admits that mass deletion of names from the voters list in Telangana was a mistake The elections in Telangana concluded on the 7th of December and the major talking point to come out of it was the mass deletion of names from the electoral roll.
After many celebrities and big names such as Jwala Gutta complained on social media about her name missing from the voter list, the election commission sprung into action. Chief Election Officer (CEO) of the election commission called a press conference and apologised for the mistake made which led to mass deletion of voter names from the electoral roll. Some of the notable names that were missing from the electoral roll included Finance Minister Etela Rajender's father's name, and DGP, chairman of Road Safety Authority, T Krishna Prasad. Assistant Collector Gnan Chand has said that the people eligible for a pension will only receive it if they are registered as voters in the electoral roll. The assistant collector advised them the people to fill Form 6 if they are registering themselves as voters for the first time, Form 8A if they want to change the polling station and Form 8 for rectifying any lapses. The state election commission hopes that this would encourage more people to register themselves as voters and come and vote in the upcoming elections in Telangana.
The state election commission is also setting up 72 booths for disabled people to get their names registered at. Pension officers have also been directed to act accordingly in the matter. M3 type EVMs to be used in upcoming lok sabha elections The election commission is all set to use the latest version of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The M3 type of EVM is the latest version of the equipment and approximately 22.3 lakh balot units and 16.3 control units have been distributed to the election commission as per a senior election commission official.
In addition to this equipment, 17.3 lakh VVPATs have also been delivered for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2019. These machines will be deployed at 10.6 lakh polling stations in the country. Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) and the Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL) were the two organisations that were tasked with developing the polling equipment for the elections and they delivered it to the election commission before September 30. In the M2 EVMs, a maximum of 16 candidates can be accomodated in a single ballot unit with a maximum of 4 M2 machines that can be connected together. As far as the M3 EVMs are concerned, a maximum of 384 candidates names can be accommodated by connecting 24 ballot units.
Both of these versions include the NOTA option. If one of the machines is working erroneously, it is replaced by a reserve. At the all party meeting that was conducted between the high level officials of the election commission and the representatives of all political parties, a number of questions were raised about the reliability of the same. Revision of voter’s list starts in Telangana The revision of voter’s list has started in Telangana for the upcoming legislative elections. In the revision, all the people who are or will turn 18 on or before 1st January 2019 can get their names enrolled in the voter's list. The claims can be filed from 1 September to 31st October.
To file an application for any correction or entry of a detail in the voter's list, the person needs to visit the official website of the Chief Electoral Officer. On the website, the voter can check whether his or her name is present on the voter's list.
20 lakh names deleted from the electoral list in Telangana Congress has raised concerns after 20 lakh names were deleted from the electoral list in Telangana. With legislative assembly elections to be conducted before schedule, the PCC Election Commission Coordination Committee has filed a complaint regarding the same to the Election Commission of India. The chairman of the PCC Election Commission Coordination Committee, Marri Shashidhar Reddy has filed a petition to the CEC for more time to be given for the verification of the electoral rolls so that the validity of the deletion of 20 lakh voters from the electoral list can be checked. This is not the first instance of deletion of names from the electoral list for a political party’s gain in the elections. In 2015, 15 lakh names were asked to be deleted from the electoral roll by then chief minister of Telangana. The 15 lakh registered voters were spread across 24 constituencies.
The EC has taken the complaint very seriously and launched an investigation into the same. Reddy has said that there could be political motives behind the deletion of names from the electoral list just as in 2015. Many experts also suspect foul play in the same matter. Voter list draft released for the upcoming general elections The Election Commission of India has released the draft of the voter list for the upcoming elections in 2019. As per the draft, 8,44,87,905 people in the country have registered themselves as voters for the Lok Sabha election out of which 4,43,43,002 are male voters, 4,01,42,278 are female voters and 2025 belong to the third gender. As per the data provided by the election commission only 38,36,611 voters have increased from the previous election. However it is to be noted that this is not the final draft and more voters will be added to it.
The expected number will hover around 18 lakh. One such city in which the number of registered voters has decreased is Mumbai. The number of registered voters has dropped down by 6,18,621 voters. The election commission has also made concerted efforts to involve specially abled people in the elections. Some of the measures include installing special booths so that the specially abled people do not have to face any obstacles while casting their vote. The ECI has been raising awareness about the voters list that has been released and urging people to check whether their names are in it or not. If the names are present then the voters have been urged to check the other details such as the address of residence, age, gender etc.
In case a person finds any detail to be incorrect, an application can be submitted to the election commission before October 31. Revision of voters list in Telangana starts The state election commission in Telangana has started the revision of the voters list in which any person who was born before 1st January 2001 and is turning 18 before January 1, 2019 can register his or her name in the voters list. Such people can register their names in the voters list between 1 September and 31st October. For those people who are already registered as voters and want to check whether their name is in the voters list or not can do so by visiting the official website of the Chief Electoral Officer. MP EC receives more than 50 lakh applications for correction in the voters list The Madhya Pradesh state election commission has received more than 50 lakh applications for corrections in the voters list that was issued. Out of the 50 lakh odd applications, 25 lakh applications have been sent to remove the fake names from the voters list and 11.40 lakh applications have been sent for the addition of new names on the list. The rest of the applications were sent in regards to name and residence address change.
The electoral list was released on 31st August. The list has been handed to the political parties and they have time till 21 August to make any objections. After all the changes have been made, the final list will be published on September 27. The electoral list was prepared between the period 19th and 31st January.
During that period, the officials visited 1.18 crore houses. After receiving so many applications regarding corrections on the electoral list, suspicions have been raised by other political parties regarding corruption in the elections. Collector asks district election officers to update the voters' list With the Madhya Pradesh assembly elections scheduled to be held this year, the district returning officer has started preparing for the polls. On Tuesday, in a meeting of the revenue officers, district returning officer Nishant Warwade had asked the revenue officers to start a special campaign in a bid to update the voters’ list. He directed the revenue officers to fill up the vacant posts of booth level officers within a week and added that all booth level officers would be given special training prior to the launch of the campaign. Warwade mentioned that the assistant returning officers will be responsible for updating the voters’ list. As part of the campaign, Warwade asked the officers to demarcate land and make the alteration in land records within a stipulated time.
He further asked them to remove encroachments and ensure that eligible people are granted residential lease.
