Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) and the Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL) were the two organisations that were tasked with developing the polling equipment for the elections and they delivered it to the election commission before September 30. In the M2 EVMs, a maximum of 16 candidates can be accomodated in a single ballot unit with a maximum of 4 M2 machines that can be connected together. As far as the M3 EVMs are concerned, a maximum of 384 candidates names can be accommodated by connecting 24 ballot units.

    20 lakh names deleted from the electoral list in Telangana Congress has raised concerns after 20 lakh names were deleted from the electoral list in Telangana. With legislative assembly elections to be conducted before schedule, the PCC Election Commission Coordination Committee has filed a complaint regarding the same to the Election Commission of India. The chairman of the PCC Election Commission Coordination Committee, Marri Shashidhar Reddy has filed a petition to the CEC for more time to be given for the verification of the electoral rolls so that the validity of the deletion of 20 lakh voters from the electoral list can be checked. This is not the first instance of deletion of names from the electoral list for a political party’s gain in the elections. In 2015, 15 lakh names were asked to be deleted from the electoral roll by then chief minister of Telangana. The 15 lakh registered voters were spread across 24 constituencies.

    The EC has taken the complaint very seriously and launched an investigation into the same. Reddy has said that there could be political motives behind the deletion of names from the electoral list just as in 2015. Many experts also suspect foul play in the same matter. As per the draft, 8,44,87,905 people in the country have registered themselves as voters for the Lok Sabha election out of which 4,43,43,002 are male voters, 4,01,42,278 are female voters and 2025 belong to the third gender. As per the data provided by the election commission only 38,36,611 voters have increased from the previous election. However it is to be noted that this is not the final draft and more voters will be added to it.

    The expected number will hover around 18 lakh. One such city in which the number of registered voters has decreased is Mumbai. The number of registered voters has dropped down by 6,18,621 voters. The election commission has also made concerted efforts to involve specially abled people in the elections. Some of the measures include installing special booths so that the specially abled people do not have to face any obstacles while casting their vote. The ECI has been raising awareness about the voters list that has been released and urging people to check whether their names are in it or not. If the names are present then the voters have been urged to check the other details such as the address of residence, age, gender etc.

    In case a person finds any detail to be incorrect, an application can be submitted to the election commission before October 31. Revision of voters list in Telangana starts The state election commission in Telangana has started the revision of the voters list in which any person who was born before 1st January 2001 and is turning 18 before January 1, 2019 can register his or her name in the voters list. Such people can register their names in the voters list between 1 September and 31st October.     During that period, the officials visited 1.18 crore houses. After receiving so many applications regarding corrections on the electoral list, suspicions have been raised by other political parties regarding corruption in the elections. Collector asks district election officers to update the voters' list With the Madhya Pradesh assembly elections scheduled to be held this year, the district returning officer has started preparing for the polls. On Tuesday, in a meeting of the revenue officers, district returning officer Nishant Warwade had asked the revenue officers to start a special campaign in a bid to update the voters’ list. He directed the revenue officers to fill up the vacant posts of booth level officers within a week and added that all booth level officers would be given special training prior to the launch of the campaign. Warwade mentioned that the assistant returning officers will be responsible for updating the voters’ list. As part of the campaign, Warwade asked the officers to demarcate land and make the alteration in land records within a stipulated time.

    He further asked them to remove encroachments and ensure that eligible people are granted residential lease.
